To Whom It May Concern:

The San Francisco Tennis Club (SFTC) has been a positive and productive part of the Bay Area's recreational community for families and individuals since 1974. It has hosted and sponsored thousands of programs for major local and national sports, educational, health, business, and community-oriented organizations. For three decades it has served as a wholesome source of family fun and fitness.

Along the way, SFTC has also supported and welcomed children from low income families, local high school and college tennis programs, San Francisco Police and Fire departments through fund raising, Special Olympics events, Asian Community charity programs, Gay and Lesbian group events, national senior events, USA/Mexico 'Good Neighbor' tournaments, (The Osuna Cup), and other major programs.

Most importantly, this is the only recreational facility in the SOMA area that offers services to everyone in San Francisco. With its open door policy, it is virtually a public facility.

Now we have learned that the San Francisco Tennis Club has been sold to an out-of-state developer who plans to demolish the SFTC building, one of the last major indoor tennis facilities in the Western United States. In its place they intend to put up another massive apartment/condominium complex in an area on the verge of being overwhelmed with apartments and condominiums.

As supporters and/or neighbors of the SFTC, we believe that the facility adds to the quality of the San Francisco community; we are deeply concerned and want to indicate our strong support for keeping the facility open and available to all in the years to come. If the SFTC is destroyed it will have a significant and negative impact on thousands of members, employees and SFTC supporters who live in San Francisco and the Bay Area. It would also greatly diminish the quality and diversity of the SOMA area. Please save this great recreational facility from the "highest bidder's" wrecking ball - an out-of-State developer whose first goal is profit even at the expense of San Francisco's great quality of life.

We implore you to keep the SFTC open and enable it to continue to be a major supporter of local programs, organizations and families. There is no comparable recreational facility in SOMA, perhaps none like it in all of San Francisco and the Bay Area.
