Food for Thought

As a member, please take a moment and reflect what being part of the San Francisco Tennis Club family and community has meant to your life:
  • The great friendships that you have made.
  • Your partner, husband, or wife that you first met at the club.
  • Friday night tennis with your friends and socializing afterward in the Café or on the rail.
  • Learning how to play tennis, improving your game, and playing USTA tennis.
  • Having a "home away from home" to go to after work or on a weekend.
  • Having a "one stop shopping place" - fitness, recreation, relaxation, and socializing all under one roof
  • Social events - Cal Cutter, the Holiday Party, the Crab Feast, etc.

Please take a moment and reflect on what might happen if there is no more SFTC:

"Wow, it is another rainy winter here in SF - it seems like it has been raining from November through April - I have no place to play - there are no more indoor tennis clubs in the city."
"Wow, it has been a really long work day in the city, now I have to drive to the Marin Tennis Club, face all that traffic, and I can not even hit a lob indoors."
"We just played a great first set, but now we have to give-up the court because people are waiting and many public courts limit playing time to an hour."
"These courts are really poorly maintained - there are tons of cracks - I can not even hit a decent ball - unfortunately many communities cannot properly maintain and repair their public courts."
"I can not wait to play USTA again this year - Oh no!, I no longer have my favorite SFTC team, the other teams do not know me, and they are full - I will never get to play."
"My game seems to have dropped a level - I guess that is what happens when you play outdoors all the time now."
"The wind, the sun, and I forgot my sunglasses - I hate playing outdoors."
"Wow, what a tough work day - I just want to find someone to hit with - I do not have Larry anymore and matchmaking, and no one is returning my phone calls."
"I will just hop on challenge court for a quick hit." - I remember there is no challenge court any more.
"I never get to see you anymore - it was so easy and great to see you almost everyday at the club - it was so easy to get together, but now it seems like it is so hard for us."
We realize that many of you can join other tennis clubs in the city, but the SFTC is special - it is a community, a family that will be hard to replace.
You are probably thinking - I will just join another club - just another bit of food for thought!
  • Marin Tennis Club - Courts are very tightly bunched, no high ceiling-good bye lobs, and try commuting there on a weeknight/weekend.
  • Olympic Club - Outdoor courts, high initiation fee, long waiting list, older average membership age, located far off in the outermost part of the city, and nice weather/foggy outdoor play.
  • Cal Club - Outdoor courts, older average membership age, fewer social events, etc.
  • Golden Gateway - Outdoor courts, average athletic facilties, fewer social events, etc.
