MISSION

What is our mission/objectives?
SOSFTC is focused on:
  1. Blocking a Club Corp sale to an entity that will no longer keep SFTC alive and running.
  2. Facilitating a buy-out by members to create a member controlled club.

In essence, our purpose is to continue to have an SFTC in San Francisco because it is an integral part of San Francisco and the Bay Area community.

The SFTC is one of the last remaining indoor tennis clubs in the Western United States and is home to numerous ongoing local programs and events that have been part of the San Francisco landscape for over the last 30 years. These programs include:
  • YTA - Youth Tennis Advantage - Hunter's Point Program
  • Local law enforcement and fire department - Guns & Hoses
  • Local high schools and universities
  • GLTF - Gay and Lesbian Tennis Federation events
  • USTA - Men, Women, and Senior Leagues = over 600 people participating

STRATEGY

What is our strategy for the proposed sale?

The goal of SOSFTC is to block the proposed sale and demolition of the SFTC to any outside entity that does not maintain our values – diversity and community. We are doing this through a variety of activities – legal, community-based, political advocacy, etc. Our goal is to facilitate a buy-out that maintains an SFTC that hosts and sponsors local community recreational events and programs. Additionally, we plan to improve the current operations of the club and become an even greater part of the local community. We have just touched the surface under the current owner – we plan to reach much greater heights as a member-controlled club.

What will the potential member-owned SFTC look like and how much do I need to contribute?

SOSFTC has developed a business plan, including several scenarios regarding a professionally managed and member-controlled club. We will present it to members, ask for additional feedback, and then communicate what it will take from each member to create an attractive offer to buy the club – a member-controlled club.
